ABOUT THE SHOW

Gardeners of Imagination (Baštovani mašte) is a documentary-poetic play about dolls and people, about memory and creation. Characters from past eras of the Puppet Theater in Mostar – from Patuljko Nosonja from 1952 to today’s heroes – return to the stage after their long sleep in the archive.

Each doll bears the traces of its time, the voices of plays that were once played and the warmth of the hands that moved them. Three actors lead the audience between reality and dream, while Rainer Maria Rilke’s poetry quietly connects the past with the future, reminding that imagination is a garden that needs to be constantly nurtured.
The performance combines documents and poetry, humor and silence, showing that the real strength of puppetry is not in the material from which the puppet is made, but in the heart that animates it.
At the end, the empty chair is occupied by a child — a symbol of hope, play and the continuation of the story.

We respectfully dedicate the show to all those who created and built the Puppet Theater in Mostar over the decades — founders, artists, all collaborators, those in front of and behind the stage, teachers, parents, audiences of all ages and those who will build the Theater in the future.
